Purpose:

To cook up a Permanent Residency (PR) pathway for 482 visa holders and skilled migrants, with a final serving of Australian Citizenship!

Ingredients :

1. Main Base:

Employer Nomination Scheme (ENS) 186 Visa

2. Streams (Chose One):

  • Temporary Residence Transition (TRT) Stream – for current 482 visa holders with employer sponsorship.
  • Direct Entry (DE) Stream – for skilled workers who may not have held a 482 visa.
  • Labour Agreement Stream – for those sponsored under a specific labour agreement.

3. Seasoning (Eligibility for Direct Entry Stream):

  • A Positive Skills Assessment in your nominated occupation
  • Three years of relevant work experience
  • A relevant qualification aligned with the nominated occupation
  • Nomination by an approved Australian employer
  • Occupation must now be on the Consolidated Skilled Occupation List (CSOL)

Note: As of December 2024, occupations from MLTSSL, STSOL, and ROL have all been blended into the CSOL, broadening access to PR via the Direct Entry stream!

Method:

  1. Preheat your Application by Checking the CSOL
Make sure your occupation is on the newly unified Consolidated Skilled Occupation List (CSOL).
  2. Gather Your Ingredients:
    • Positive skills assessment result
    • Three years of relevant experience
    • Academic or trade qualification (related to your occupation)
    • Employer willing to nominate you
  3. Mix in an Employer Nomination:
    • Your sponsoring employer must lodge a nomination for you through the DE stream.
  4. Blend in Your Visa Application:
    • Apply for the 186 Visa (Direct Entry stream) online via the Department of Home Affairs portal.
  5. Let It Simmer:
    • Processing times may vary, so make sure all documents are accurate and up to date to avoid delays.

Serving Suggestions:

Once your 186 Visa is granted, you’re officially a Permanent Resident of Australia!
With PR in hand, you can begin your journey to full Australian Citizenship, typically within a few years (and meeting residency requirements).

Bonus Tips from the Chef:

  • Make sure your English proficiency is up to standard.
  • Keep health and character checks handy – these are always on the menu.
  • Consult with a registered migration agent to guide your process.
