The New World of Work: Is the Future is Yours?

By 22 September 2016No Comments

Nikola Tesla once said, ‘The present is theirs; the future, for which I really worked, is mine.’ At the moment the world of work is changing, and the question of whether to embrace the change and evolve with the times is a decision that all businesses need to make. A business can chose right now to let others have the present and look forward, knowing that the future of work is theirs.
On October 25th, Pendragon Management is launching ‘The New World of Work’. The night will see forward-thinking minds coming together to present a seminar on not only the future of work, but the mindset needed to embrace change and what the future holds in general.

Hosted in the Tesla Showroom in Martin Place, the event will feature futurist Craig Rispin, Paralympian Ellie Cole, a spokesperson from Tesla and our own CEO John Glover, and catered by the fabulous Flavours Catering + Events.

Tesla

We are fortunate enough that Tesla have opened the doors to their Martin Place showroom for us to host this event. The showroom was officially opened in July and features two of the Tesla S models, the Tesla skateboard as well as a Tesla Powerwall on display.

Tesla is not just an automaker, but also a technology and design company with a focus on energy innovation. Founded in 2003 by Silicon Valley engineers Martin Eberhard and Marc Tappening with Eberhard choosing the name of Tesla Motors to honour inventor Nikola Tesla. They sought to develop an electric car that was better than a gasoline car. In 2004 current CEO Elon Musk – the multi-millionaire who brought us PayPal – was approached and he was quickly sold on the idea, contributing over seven million to the project and becoming chairman of the board. Fast-forward to 2012 and the Model S Sedan was launched and in 2013 it was named Motor Trend’s Car of the Year and achieved a 5-star safety rating from the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

Tesla is continuing to innovate in not only the automobile, but also energy, and we could not think of a better place to consider the future of work than surrounded by the future of technology. CEO Elon Musk is not only looking to the future but to the stars, with his company SpaceX designing and manufacturing rockets and spacecraft.

Craig Rispin

Know first, be first, profit first – Futurist Craig Rispin has made his career on bringing businesses to the forefront of innovation and ensuring they are ready for the next step before others are even aware that the change is happening.

Craig has over 20 years’ experience working where the future has been created – with some of the most innovative companies in the world in the IT, consumer electronics, internet and broadcasting industries. A TED speaker who was also involved in the launch of TEDxSydney, Craig has experience talking to crowds as large as 16000 and clients that include Toyota, IBM, NRMA, Fairfax, Telstra, Apple and many more.

As someone who is known internationally as a forward thinker, we are extremely fortunate that Craig will be on hand to present his idea of the future of the world of work.

Ellie Cole

Paralympian Ellie Cole will be joining us fresh from her campaign in Rio, which saw her win six medals in the pool for Australia – two gold, three silver and a bronze. She added to her tally of four gold and two bronze in London 2012 and silver and two bronze in Beijing 2008. She defended her 100 m Backstroke S9 gold in Rio, earning the Paralympic Record to accompany her world record in the same event from the 2015 World Championships in Glasgow.

Diagnosed with a sarcoma tumour behind her knee when she was two years old, Ellie had her leg amputated and began swimming as part of the rehabilitation process. Despite warnings that it would take her a year to be able to swim in a straight line, she managed it in two weeks, showing off her ability as a natural born swimmer.

A double shoulder operation threatened to end her career after the 2012 London Paralympics, but Ellie’s strong mindset allowed her to come back with strong performances at both the Glasgow World Swimming Championships and the Rio 2016 Paralympics.

A true inspiration, Pendragon is honoured to have Ellie speak at this event.
