The ABS reported the number of people employed decreased by 10,200 to 11,653,200 in July.
The decrease in employment was due to decreased full-time employment, down 6700 people to 8,133,900, and part-time employment, down 3500 to 3,519,300.
Full-time and part-time employment decreased for both females and males.
The number of people unemployed decreased by 5700 people to 705,400 in July, the ABS reported.
Seasonally adjusted
The ABS monthly seasonally adjusted aggregate hours worked series showed an increase in July, up 7.9 million hours to 1648.6 million hours.
The ABS reported a seasonally adjusted labour force participation rate decrease of 0.2 percentage points to 65.1 per cent in July.
